Robotics Applications within the Nuclear Industry & the Latest Developments of the RIMA Programme

The use of robotics technologies for inspection and maintenance within the nuclear industry has seen a rise in recent years. Innovative robotics solutions in such areas as remote weld inspection, radiation mapping and others can provide benefits within nuclear operations.

The RIMA programme (Robotics for Inspection and Maintenance) – in which FORATOM is involved as a member of the consortium – is a 4-year project, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon2020 R&I Programme, aiming to connect I&M robotics to the market and high potential applications by establishing a network of 13 Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH) and industry associations to support the uptake of robotics – and help small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) to develop novel solutions for different industry sectors.

Last year, the programme’s first open call was held to support companies in the development and deployment of robotics I&M applications with equity-free funded grants. In result, RIMA has selected 19 beneficiaries out of the 121 applications to the first open Call. Three of the selected projects are considered under the nuclear domain challenges. The programme’s second open call will be launched in December 2020.

FORATOM’s webinar, which will take place on 18 November (Wednesday) at 13:00 CET, will give participants an opportunity to:

• understand more about the potential for greater use of robotics applications within the nuclear industry
• get an overview of the RIMA programme & its next steps (including the programme’s second open call)
• learn more about the three nuclear projects that have been chosen in the progarmme’s first open call
• listen to the nuclear industry’s representative who will discuss the role of robotics from their perspective
• participate in a Q&A session which will follow the presentations.
